Learning how to create lists on your personal Facebook page.

Lists are a very helpful way to narrow down the groups you want to interact with within your Facebook world. Hope this is helpful!

Don't be the shut in non social neighbor!

Have you ever been sitting inside on a warm sunny day with the windows open and you hear lots of chatter outside?  You open the front door only to find all your neighbors out in their front lawns talking,  their kids are playing and climbing trees. So you venture out and next thing you know and hour has gone by and you have enjoyed interacting with your neighborhood.

The real estate business 10 years ago vs today is still the same. Being successful is based on building strong, solid, trustworthy relationships. It is about interacting with your tribe and Seth Godin would say. Well look at this news as of yesterday.

Yep! Facebook visits beat Google. What does this mean?

It means that the neighbors, about 425,000 of them are out in their social media front yards talking with each other every day. If you are not on facebook then it is the equivalent of being a shut  in your home on a sunny summer day with all the windows closed and the shades pulled,  not able to hear the chatter.

We all know what neighbors say about that person living in that house don’t we?  Don’t be that person. Get out there and facebook.

Facebook yes, but what about Linkedin?

I really think that Reid is onto something here. Many of you are using something like facebook or Linkedin but are you using both to your advantage? Keep in mind that Facebook is really a place for friends, and a place to let your friends learn more about your. Linkedin on the other hand is a place for business to happen and a place where you can tap into lots of different resources that you may need in your business.

Just the other day I was wanting a great video close for a meeting I was doing. I went into linkedin and tapped into over 345 individuals who are professional speakers in some fashion and posted my question. Within minutes I had over 35 responses back with lots of great video ideas to use in my close. This is just one example but as you move forward in this new world of social networking remember that each network has a specific purpose as Reid has eluded to in the video.

why check e-mail when you have facebook?

I have e-mail, I also have a facebook account, and a myspace account. In my facebook and myspace profiles I can control and limit the people that have the ability to communicate with me. Because I control that arena that communication becomes far more important than much of the mail that hits my inbox. There are far to many “friends” out there today that assume if they have my e-mail addresss then I must want to know more about what they have to market to me.  This is the main reason I’m more focused on facebook and myspace instead of my e-mailbox.  A great article on this topic was on mashable today by Adam Ostrow and his title read,

Social Networking More Popular Than Email

I find this to be the case in my world on a daily basis. I would much rather see a post or a message from a good friend than the 100 messages I have to delete daily from my inbox of mail from people I kinda of know or don’t know at all, and they  just want me to see what they are marketing. So what is my point with this post?  Real Estate agents please remember this, when you create a facebook account, the individuals who have be-friended you do not want to see your new listing, or get daily posts of you trying to persuade them to come look at your million dollar listing on the lake, or see a detail page posted of beds and baths and sq footage. That honestly is the fastest way for me to de-freind you.  They be-friended you because they want to know about you and what you are doing. They want to know your person and reconnect. It’s great if in that discovery they learn you work in Real Estate but don’t make that the focus. Lets try to keep face book a social networking place and not a giant advertising vehicle.
